- For bar, catering and kitchen shifts: a food handler card, and usually TABC — one is required by Texas law, the other is asked for by almost every venue

We are a real marketplace, not a site that resells your information. Every booking runs through Stripe escrow, so the money for a job exists before anyone starts working. We are also upfront about being new: no reviews yet, and we will not invent any. What you can check for yourself is the payment mechanism itself, described in full above.
What does it cost, and who pays the fee?
You pay the price you agree with your helper plus a 15% service fee. Your helper keeps 85% of the agreed price. On a $100 job you pay $115, your helper receives $85, and findyouronedayjob.com keeps $30 — which covers Stripe processing, payment protection and support. You see the full total before you pay, and nothing is added afterwards.
When do I actually get paid?
The same day the job is marked complete and accepted by whoever booked it. The money is already sitting in escrow at that point, so there is nothing left to process afterwards. The full mechanism is explained on the same-day pay page.
Am I an employee if I work through the platform?
No. Work booked through findyouronedayjob.com is independent contractor work, not employment. You are responsible for tracking your own income and handling your own taxes, including self-employment tax, the same as with any other gig work. If you are doing this regularly, it is worth talking to a tax professional — we can tell you how payment works, not how to file.
Do I need experience or a background check to find day labor near me?
Most day labor and one-day jobs do not require a résumé or formal experience — they require showing up and doing the work described in the posting. You do need a verifiable ID to register. Some jobs list their own requirements, like lifting a certain weight or bringing basic tools.
What if I show up and the job is not what was described?
Do not mark it complete, and do not do work you were not told about — contact us first. Because payment has not been released to anyone yet, there is a clear point to pause and sort it out before money changes hands.
What if I book someone and the work is not done properly?
You only release payment when you mark the job accepted. If the work genuinely was not done as agreed, that is the moment to raise it — not after the money is already gone. That is what payment protection is for.
Is this only available in Austin?
We are starting in Austin, Texas, and building out from there. Job availability depends on your specific location as we grow.
What is the difference between “day labor” and a “same day pay job” here?
Not much, honestly. “Day labor” usually describes the type of work — moving, cleaning, yard work and similar. “Same day pay” describes how fast you are paid for it. On findyouronedayjob.com, both apply to the same jobs.
